"In 406 he was a member of the Boule, and his tribe Antiochis held the prytany on the day the generals of Battle of Arginusae, who abandoned the slain and the survivors of foundered ships to pursue the defeated Spartan navy, were discussed."

A horrible sentence. Nothing in it gives away any of its meaning, the convoluted structure hurts my eyes and I understand two words out of three. Why do people write like this? Do they think it makes them sound more scholarly? I'll prytany them..

(Heading over to wiki to try and unknot brain)
